When someone we care about is going through challenges with their mental health, it can be hard to know what to say, or how to offer the best type of support. This engaging 60-minute workshop, led by Peer Health Educators, focuses on the various ways mental health shows up in our lives, and in the lives of the people we care about. Participants will…
Understand the scope of mental illness among college-aged individuals
Explore barriers and other factors that make certain groups more vulnerable to mental health challenges
Consider possible factors that contribute to suicide as the second leading cause of death among young people
Consider factors that reduce the risk of suicide and support one’s mental health
Learn how to spot the signs that indicate a person may be struggling
Develop skills for starting conversations about mental health concerns, including suicide
Practice skills for initiating conversations about mental health, including conversations about suicide
Become familiar with a variety of mental health resources

This event runs as part of F&M's Suicide Prevention Month Events.
