About Us
As the central student government of Franklin & Marshall College, the Diplomatic Congress unites student leaders from all facets of the community with the common purpose of promoting a diverse and engaging campus culture and improving all aspects of the student experience. To this end, Congress is tasked with the following: coordinating student participation in the shared governance of the college, overseeing the activities of—and facilitating collaboration between—various student governing bodies, primary funding for, and oversight of, campus-wide events and student activities, and advocacy on behalf of the student body on all critical matters facing the College. The Diplomatic Congress, in its capacity as the central student governing body, is dedicated to combating racism and all forms of discrimination throughout the Franklin & Marshall College community and to actively being an anti-racist organization that prioritizes diversity, equity, and inclusion. The Congress seeks to create a College community that is a welcoming educational, social, and residential environment for BIPOC students as well as for students of historically marginalized and oppressed backgrounds, namely those of Latinx, LGBTQ+, Muslim, and Jewish identities. The Congress acknowledges the deeply-entrenched systemic racism in American society which unjustly targets and criminalizes BIPOC members of society and which is present within Franklin & Marshall College’s founding and history as an institution. In addition, the Congress recognizes that this racism disproportionately affects women of color and LGBTQ+ people of color and is a danger to the well-being of BIPOC students on Franklin & Marshall’s campus. The Congress stands steadfast in its commitment to proactively oppose racism and to support the well-being, safety, and security of all students.
